Moon in Cancer – Men and Women

Natal Moon in Cancer

The Moon, by her very nature of her connection to the tides here on earth, is a watery, sensitive energy, and works extremely well when placed in a zodiac sign of the same element – Cancer, Pisces and to some degree, Scorpio. Symbolising emotions and feelings, people who have their Moon in a water sign tend to be more in tune with their deepest intuitive needs and able to express their hearts more openly.

Hence, you can count yourself lucky if you have your Moon in Cancer – and not only because this is a water sign, but also because the Moon rules the sign of the Crab, and so is placed “in her home”, so to speak. A planet in their own home – called “domicile” in astrology – functions perfectly to their natures, without having to necessarily try. Whilst others may struggle to connect to their emotions, you have a direct line – sometimes painfully so – but a direct connection nonetheless, which serves as a great blessing, if you learn to appreciate this gift!

A Cancer Moon is highly sensitive, feeling every little thing within and without, and you may struggle at first, as you try and “turn off” your emotional switch. However, this is a switch that should be kept on and dialled up, as it is the very thing that makes you so connected to your loved ones. You are the person who others may call in a crisis, as you empathise and understand feelings like no other and can so easily relate to every emotion. You show your care by making a cup of tea or a heart-warming meal, and listening to a problem without trying to “solve” it. You’ll always go beyond yourself to make sure others feel heard and nurtured which is, in a sense, what will make you a great parent one day – whether it’s a parent of a little human being or an animal or three! You adore taking care of others, and need to have someone to lavish your love and tenderness on.

Sometimes it can be hard to feel as much as you do, and you may often wish to have a moment’s break, where you can step out of your powerful emotion world and take a breather. It therefore becomes extremely important that you do this for yourself, finding physical or creative outlets for your feelings and allow them to be processed without turning too much inward.

Many of you will have immense creative gifts and a powerful imagination, which can either be put to use making something beautiful, such as a story or a piece of art (this can be a delicious meal or a mural painting!) or can be misused in the form of worry. When you get too imaginative, you may conjure up stories in your mind of things going wrong, of loved ones getting hurt, or even yourself being hurt by the ones you love. You may need to be sure to watch this powerful imagination so that it does not make up untrue stories, which can hurt you in the process. Channelling your feelings into a tangible creation is an excellent use of these energies, and you may be someone that can achieve a great deal when you allow yourself to tap in, tune out and let things flow.

Most Cancerian Moons are extremely introverted, and your home is your castle. If you are in a home space that is, in any way, harsh or uncomfortable, you will likely suffer very deeply. You need your space to be extremely private, much like the shell that surrounds the crab. You will often need to “hermit”, and your space will have to reflect that. You’ll likely enjoy kitting out a kitchen where you can spend a lot of time baking and cooking, and may enjoy tending to a thriving herb garden. Home is a place of great comfort and nourishment, and your loved ones will always feel as if they are sinking into a mother’s arms when cradled on your comfy couch and sharing time with you.

Your own connection to your mother should be very strong, for better or for worse. You may have a powerful attachment to her and perhaps an idealised version of what a “mother” should be, especially if you never enjoying a nurturing mother figure. If so, you will strive to be that idealised version yourself, yet you’ll need to be mindful of making sure that you don’t carry unnecessary guilt when you are unable to fulfil that role perfectly. You will be better than most, and your children / animals will likely love you very deeply and appreciate your tender care and nurturing.

In love, you’ll be a profoundly caring partner, always looking out for your loved one’s deepest needs and desires, and trying to make sure that you do all in your power to get those needs met. You may need to watch for resentment as you tend to put your own needs aside, and may become defensive or passive aggressive – dealing with conflict head-on is extremely important for you to have peaceful and healthy relationships. You like to form deep connections over casual ones, and you may get your heart trodden on a few times until you learn that you need to guard it deeply, waiting for the right person to come along before you open up into vulnerability.

You’re an incurable romantic and you thrive in a relationship where marriage and children are options – although some of you may decide to walk the less than travelled road, and live a more unbound life. There are the rare Cancerian Moon types that become wanderers in the world, and develop a powerful love of travel.

Generally speaking, this can be one of the most wonderful Moon signs to have, and if you follow your very accurate intuition unfailingly you will never go wrong in life. It becomes important not to dismiss your “gut” feeling, and also important not to allow your emotions to engulf you, or spend too much time indulging or wallowing in emotion. Learn to let go, follow your heart and love deeply, and you’ll find your life full of profound connections and soul-satisfying experiences.
